What We Do
Our mission is simple: to empower students with the tools they need to communicate truth with integrity and grace.
Speech
-
Platform Speech
Speakers present an original speech scripted word-for-word in advance. Platform speeches may be informative, persuasive, or include a digital presentation.
-
Interpretative Speech
Speakers explore literature selections to creatively develop and present an original performance. Possibilities for interps include Biblical thematic, open interp, duo interp, and original presentation.
-
Limited Preparation Speech
Speakers are given a prompt and have a limited amount of time to prepare a speech. This category is divided into impromptu speeches, apologetics, and extemporaneous speeches.
Debate
-
Team Policy Debate
A team of two debaters affirms the year’s resolution, while another team of debaters negates the resolution. This form of debate simulates argumentation in a legislative body.
-
Lincoln Douglas Debate
One debater affirms the resolution while another opposes it, demonstrating a clash of competing desirable values. This style of debate simulates the famous debates between Abraham Lincoln and Stephen Douglas.
Moot Court
A team of two debaters presents legal arguments to appeal the decision in a fictional court case, while an opposing team of two students responds with legal arguments to defend the fictional decision. This form of debate is designed to simulate oral argument before an appellate court.
We do not currently offer moot court training in-club; however, we can help provide resources for members who are interested.

Our club's students proudly compete in the NCFCA Christian Speech & Debate League. When students compete, their level of excellence increases significantly. Without the goal of competition, students may not fully develop the skills they set out to achieve. Competition motivates students to excel, fosters a desire to improve, and helps them attain high levels of achievement.
